Preventative Medicine – What I Always Wanted (But Didn’t Know Existed)
Preventative health care. Sounds fancy and responsible, right? But for the longest time, I had no clue what it actually meant. All I knew was that I didn’t want to end up in a hospital bed fighting for my life, whispering to myself, "I probably should’ve taken better care of myself..."
So, What Is Preventative Health Care?
In simple terms: Preventative health care is about stopping illness and disease before they start.
It means supporting your body, mind, and spirit consistently, instead of waiting until you're in pain, burnt out, or desperate. It's about listening to your body’s whispers so it doesn’t have to scream.
And yes, we’ve all heard the saying, "If you don’t have your health, you’ve got nothing." You can have all the money in the world, but it’s irrelevant if you're too sick—or worse, dying—to enjoy it.
Reactive Medicine: Our Current Norm
Unfortunately, most of us are used to reactive medicine—only addressing health when something’s already broken. You’re in pain (physically or emotionally), so you go in and get that little white piece of paper with the latest symptom reliever.
And hey, no shame. I’ve been there. As great as a good Ativan or painkiller can feel in the moment (hello, numbness), they don’t solve the issue at the root. They just quiet your body’s signals.
But here's the deal: Your body is trying to talk to you. And if you ignore it long enough, it will get louder—maybe in new ways, or in different places. Pain, illness, emotional chaos—it will manifest somehow if you keep ignoring it.
The Real Problem With Only Treating Symptoms
Symptom relief feels great... until it isn’t. Because the root cause is still there, simmering beneath the surface. And eventually, it bubbles over.
Instead of constantly putting out fires, preventative health care is like making your house fireproof in the first place.
A Bit of Science-y Stuff (For Street Cred)
According to Wikipedia:
Preventive healthcare is the application of healthcare measures to prevent diseases. Disease and disability are affected by environmental factors, genetic predisposition, disease agents, and lifestyle choices, and are dynamic processes that begin before individuals realize they are affected.
Cool. So basically, stuff is happening in your body long before you realize anything’s wrong. Preventative care catches it early—or stops it altogether.
BodyTalk and Preventative Health
In the BodyTalk system, preventative care means helping the body communicate more effectively. When communication breaks down between organs, systems, or even emotions, imbalance begins.
BodyTalk taps into your body’s natural intelligence to:
Restore balance
Reconnect the systems
Support the nervous system, calm emotional turbulence, and bring awareness to patterns that may otherwise fly under the radar.
This is energy medicine. Gentle. Non-invasive. Profoundly effective.
Why Preventative Care Matters (So Much)
Because:
You can catch imbalances early
You stay more resilient to stress and illness
You avoid burnout by supporting your nervous system
You support your mental and emotional health before it crashes
You get to live more fully, with intention, instead of constantly recovering
Wouldn’t you rather avoid illness than fight to recover?
And sure, the tricky thing is—you can’t exactly measure what doesn’t happen. But when you’re consistently supporting your body, you don’t expect to get sick. And if you do, your body bounces back faster. You’re not stuck in survival mode. You’re out there actually living.
A Reality Check (With Love)
Preventative health care requires something that not everyone is excited about: Accountability.
Yes, you’ve got to look at your own patterns, behaviors, and choices. It’s not always easy. But guess what? No one is here to save you. There are lots of people who want to support you—but the initial step? That’s on you.
"I don’t have time." "I can’t afford that."
Unfortunately, those won’t hold up when you’re sick. So… maybe now’s the time to ask: what are you waiting for?
My Turning Point
I got to the end of my rope when I found BodyTalk. (I’ll share that whole story in another blog—stay tuned.)
But I will say this: I wish I had found support so much sooner. I wish I had known I could heal my deep wounds in such a safe and non-invasive way. To be living medication-free, feeling emotionally and mentally healthier than I ever have.
And here’s the wild part—once you start feeling a little better, you crave more. Healing becomes… addictive. In the best way.
You start meditating (and maybe even liking it), you clean up your food, you move your body. And then something amazing happens—you start making healthier decisions in every part of your life.
You fight with your partner differently (with more awareness). You show up for your kids with more patience. You create space for joy, rest, and you.
It all ripples outward.
The Truth?
Healing has changed my life in more ways than I can count. I’m still on the journey, and always will be. But to go from feeling low, sick, and hopeless… to feeling good, grounded, and hopeful? That’s a big deal.
Healing isn’t just for some people. It’s not reserved for those with more time or money or willpower.
It’s for everyone. It’s for you.
So if you’re ready to take accountability and start creating a new story for your health—BodyTalk is one powerful place to start.
(And hey, if you’re reading this and already feel seen? Good fricken job. It takes courage to look inward.)
This blog isn't meant to convince you—it's meant to remind you that you're not stuck. You have options. You have power. And whether BodyTalk ends up being your path or not, I hope this gives you something to think about.
Real healing isn’t flashy or instant. It’s small steps, deeper awareness, and choosing yourself over and over again.
More blog posts are coming soon, including my full story of how BodyTalk completely changed the game for me. Until then—stay curious, stay compassionate, and take the next step that feels right for you.
